NOTE: Trumpet 1 part (piccolo in B-flat) is published in the correct octave.
A fond and vivid memory occurred on Tuesday, 22 Feb 2022 at 2:22 and 22 seconds. The brass quintet that I was a part of had just finished a performance at an elementary school after lunch. During our tear-down and load-out, I was fully aware of the coming moment full of twos. Imagine my delight when the principal’s voice rang out over the intercom system to wish everyone in the school “Happy Twos-Day!” That gleeful memory is now immortalized with this two-minute-and-twenty-two-second piece of fun music. Painstaking efforts were made to ensure a ridiculous degree of symbolism: the piece begins with two instruments (trumpet two, and two-ba); there are two different trumpets called for, pitched in two octaves (piccolo in B-flat and regular B-flat); the piece’s duration is 2:22; duple meter is used throughout, almost entirely in 2/2; there are 88 measures (2 x 2 x 22); completion of the piece was intentionally delayed for two days until a Tuesday; and a fun, inadvertent detail is that the initial melodic sketch was composed two days before the celebrated twos-day. The initial retail price: $22.22, with a 22% off coupon, online code: “2.22.22”.
