This rich composition was crafted to underscore the time lapse of writing a heartfelt letter of gratitude to my sweet mother on Mother’s Day 2025.The contents of the letter do not need to be shared here. Rather, any performance of this work can take on its own personalized “Thank You” to anyone deserving of the honor.

The premiere performance of “Thank You Note” took place before Mother’s Day, on March 11, 2025 in Sendai, Japan, somberly memorializing the earthquake and tsunami on that date 14 years prior. It was one of several stirring pieces played during the reading of names of those who perished in the 2011 disaster. There was no applause, no announcement, no acknowledgement of it being a world premiere performance; only an inside knowledge by the performers that the sentiment was personally extended as an inadvertent collective participation of gratitude to all throughout the world who aided in the cleanup and recovery efforts of that special region of Japan.

Ultimately, the gratitude in this “Thank You Note” is an expression of faith and hope in everything that is good about humanity, all of which seems to start with caring, nurturing mothers.
