Gadao Fanfare, Op. 169-D was started in a composition masterclass during a week-long music festival in Guam. During a week as a guest artist and clinician at the Tumon Bay Music Festival in Guam, the attendees of my composition masterclass collaboratively began this fun, short piece. Collective agreements on certain decisions were made concerning key, time signature, accompanimental patterns, opening theme, tempo, opening dynamics, duration, etc. They also came up with the title which memorializes a legend among the Chamorro people (the natives of the Mariana Islands), about a tribal chief named Gadao. The incipient collaborative fanfare was completed six days after the masterclass on 20 Mar 2024, and, as promised, the final product was shared with the contributors: Mina Bunten, Josh Oguilla, Leih Oguilla, and Caroline Beadles. Duration: 1:10.
Giddings Fanfare, Op. 169-A was gifted to Giddings Mouthpieces on 22 May 2023 for the celebration of their 20th anniversary. Due to Ivan Giddings’ prompting and after an encouraging encounter with Esteban Batallán, this exciting short fanfare was expanded as a concert work titled Dragon’s Breath with anticipation of being performed in Japan. The title “Dragon’s Breath” was borrowed from the heat treatment of Giddings’ steel and titanium mouthpieces. Unlike the fanfare, the expanded work calls for trumpets in C. Duration: 0:20.
Singapore NCC Fanfare, Op. 169-B was originally sketched for four trumpets, gifted to Maestro Anthony Chew at the Singapore National Cadet Corps Command Band after an afternoon in July 2023 performing for and working with the students. Premiered Aug 2023 by the NCC Herald Trumpets. The brass quintet expansion was completed a couple months later. Duration: 0:20.
Victory Fanfare: Election Day, Op. 169-G was started 6 Nov 2024 while I was stationed in Japan (which was 5 Nov—Election Day in the United States) and was completed the same day. It is dedicated to the winner of the 2024 presidential election, President Donald Trump. Duration: 0:25.
Hachijo-jima 70th, Op. 169-C was composed in Nov 2023 for the 2024 anniversary of the island’s annexation into Tokyo in 1954. It was gifted to the high school band director as a gesture of interest and goodwill from the USAF Band of the Pacific. The tiny island is an enchanting place that I fell in love with quickly. Its black volcanic sands, a 5-km valley between two stunning cones, and an abandoned luxury hotel inspire the imagination! Duration: 0:50.
Pacific Fanfare, Op. 169-E was composed for and dedicated to Lt Col Jason Plosch upon his completion of a military tour of duty in Japan as the United States Air Force PACAF Band Commander. It was premiered and presented to Col Plosch at the PACAF Band change of command ceremony at Yokota Air Base 10 Jul 2024. Duration: 1:30.
Yokota Fanfare, Op. 169-F was completed on 9 Sep 2024 as a news theme for the Armed Forces Network (AFN) in the Pacific region. Duration: 1:16.Gilded Music Press specializes in brass music and pedagogical materials composed and crafted by Dr. Daniel Thrower.
