Andy was one of my best friends in college--a fellow trumpeter, and even a roommate for a time. He and I both married on the same day, we both followed military band careers, and we both had six children. Carly was Andy’s oldest child, a beautiful young lady who fought cancer throughout her teens, and ultimately succumbed to the disease. Some time later, after listening to a song that supported cancer sufferers, this melody came into my mind, replete with the title. When the gift was given, Andy replied, tenderly informing me, "You know, Carly always used to tell us that ‘Everything would be alright’ before she passed away. At the end of her life, when we would all be stressed, Carly would pipe up and say, ‘Everybody pause.’ Then she would remind us that everything would be alright."
